The inability of a child to perform as a adult does not mean that he will be a failure or never accomplish anything when he finally comes of age as an adult. Besides, parents must know by now that children learn to emulate examples. He does not need his parents to put him down during this early stage in his life when he is struggling to realize his potential as a person and slowly begin his ascent to personal achievements. Instead of telling a child that he will never amount to anything when he fails, a parent must instead feed the childââ¬â¢s soul and hope with calming words that show how much he is loved even if he fails in his quests. Instead of berating him, help him find his direction and keep on the track that will help him amount to something instead. During the childhood of a person, he learns to build up his self confidence and try new things. The job of a parent during this stage is to help him or her achieve the perfect balance of self-esteem, emotional health, and personal empowerment because these are the factors that will aid a child in learning how to react to and deal with the many shortcoming that will come down their path before they actually reach the final desired outcome of ââ¬Å"amounting to something in their lives.â⬠Consider that a childââ¬â¢s failure is his own shame because his peers will never let him live it down. It is a stigma he could carry all his life because his peers will never forget how he did not accomplish what he set out to do. They will judge him by his failures and he does not need his parents doing the same thing to him at home. He will feel bad enough for a very long time and does not need his parents to make him hurt by using those scathing words. Just as a parents words has the power to instill confidence in a child, so can the words of the parent crush a childââ¬â¢s sense of self worth. If a parent really wants his or her child to achieve or accomplish something in this world, then they have to realize that a childââ¬â¢s achievements and accomplishments can only be achieved through nurturing, encouragement, and uplifting words. Parents must remember that they are the guardians of a childââ¬â¢s hope and dreams. It is not their job nor right to negate a childââ¬â¢s sense of self worth, destroy their beliefs in what they can achieve in life, nor belittle the child to the point that he loses self confidence. The worst kind of parent is the one who leaves a child feeling that he has lost his sense of self and everything that goes with what defines him as a person. Parents must realize thatà words have a direct impact on the children. It is a parentââ¬â¢s responsibility to bring out the best in the child. Not make them feel worthless and unimportant.à After all, physical scars on a child may heal, but the emotional scars children carry with them throughout their lives. After many years of conflict, the British defeated the French in 1760. New France was captures and occupied by British troops. 2. 1763 ââ¬â One treaty, the Royal Proclamation of 1763, was referred to by the British government as a temporary First Nation Bill of rights. The British promised to honour First Nation peoples, language, and right to live on their lands. However, the government did not revisit these treaties until 1876. / With the Treaty of Paris, New France became the British colony of Quebec. General James Murray became the first governor of the new British colony of Quebec. 3. 1774 - Governor Murray and Sir Guy Carlton, who later took his place, both reached the same conclusion. They believed that, as much as possible, the Canadians should be allowed to maintain their ways of life. As a result of Carletonââ¬â¢s efforts, the Quebec Act was passed. Under this legislation, Quebecââ¬â¢s border was expanded far to the west, including the best fur trapping lands, and no land was taken from the French. Roman Catholics were free to practise their religion and hold public office. French civil law was retained, but British criminal law was established and no elected assembly was created. 4. 1775-1783 ââ¬â After the American Revolution of 1775 ââ¬â 1783, a large number of people who did not want to rebel against British rule left America and came to Canada. Called Loyalists, these former Americans increased the Anglophone population and the influence of British culture in Quebec. 5. 1791 - With the increase of the Anglophone population, the colonial authorities in Britain believed that changes should be made to the Quebec Act. The Constitutional Act was passed. This act divided Quebec into two colonies and recognized the cultural duality in Canada. (Designed to be fair to both Francophones and Anglophones.) 6. 1830 ââ¬â Reformers in both Upper and Lower Quebec wanted to change each colony to a more democratic system of government. When demands were refused, they rebelled. British forces put down the rebellions. To try and eliminate the friction that had caused them, England sent Lord Durham to Canada to study the problem. Durham suggested that the government be made more democratic and that Upper and Lower Canada become one single colony. Durham hoped that the French language and culture would disappear because Anglophones outnumbered Francophones. Some Francophone leaders such as Antoine Aime Dorion opposed confederation. The francophone champion of confederation was Georges Etienne Cartier. He believed that French and English could work together in harmony to produce a strong Canada.. 7. 1867 ââ¬â The Canadian Constitution ââ¬â known as the British North America Act was passed by Britain. This marked the beginning of Confederation. 8. November 1869 ââ¬â After Louis Riel (Metis Leader) was refused a seat in parliament, the Metis organized a provisional government with Riel as president. Riels government developed a list of rights that the Metis wanted the federal government in Ottawa to guarantee before Red River joined Confederation. The prime minister of Canada, John A. MacDonald delayed making a decision. The Metis had executed a trouble making Anglophone, Thomas Scott, and English speaking Canadians were outraged. Finally MacDonald acted. 9. 1870 ââ¬â MacDonaldââ¬â¢s government passed a bill that established the province of Manitoba. A governor, agreed upon by the Metis, was to be sent to take over the colony. Sony Corporation Essay From the time high definition televisions (HDTV) made its appearance into the market in the year 1998 the demand for high capacity storage DVD has increased. Regular DVDs turned out to be insufficient for this application. DVDs support resolutions up to 720480 pixels whereas HDTV will work with the resolution of 19201080 pixel format. The above definition approximately means that to run a two hour video on a HDTV requires storage capacities of 22GB where as the maximum capacity of the DVDs that are available in the market are 17GB. This has led for the development of the DVD with higher storage capabilities suitable for HDTVs. This development ultimately resulted in two DVD formats with huge storage capability, one from Sony Corporation called as Blu Rays and other from Toshiba called as HD-DVD with the support from their technology partners. Evolution of Blu Rays: Sony started two new rewritable disc storage systems: ultra density optical UDO and DVR Blue. The first DVR Blue prototype was released in the October 2000 CEATEC exhibition. In February 2002 the project was officially announced as Blu-Ray Disc(or simply BD) and Blue Ray Disc Association was founded with initial nine members at consortium made by the companies that include Apple, Dell, Hitachi, HP, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, TDK and Thomson. HD-DVD, on the other hand, was created by Toshiba and got support from Microsoft, HP and Intel. The regular DVDs use red laser (wavelength of 650nm) to read and write whereas blu-ray uses a blue-purple laser to read and write data. As the wavelength is smaller for Blue ââ¬âpurple laser (450nm) this allows for a higher recording density. While recording the blue-purple laser is used to burn pits on the disc surface. The areas that werenââ¬â¢t burnt are known as lands. While reading blue-purple laser with lower intensity is thrown on the disc. When a pit is encountered the light is reflected with a lower intensity compared to the land. This is how a Blu-ray detects pits and lands. The physical dimensions of the Blu-ray are same as the regular DVD. This is from the blue laser that is used the named Blu-Ray has been derived. On April 10th 2003 the first Blu-Ray devices were released. It was Sony BDZ-S77 a BD RE recorder which was made available only in Japan. The physical dimensions were finalized only ion 2004. In the year 2005 TDK made an announcement that a polymer coating has been developed for the Blu-Ray discs. BD-ROM specifications were finalized in the year 2006. In the year 2004, a consortium is formed which has been developing the DRM platform that is used to securely distribute movies to customers. The first BD-ROM players were released in June 2006. Blu-Rays titles were first released on June 20, 2006. Initial releases used MPEG-2 video compression similar to DVDs. September 2006 viewed first release of newer VC-1 and AVC codec. First movies using dual layer discs which have storage capacity of 50GHz was released in October 2006. The first mass market for Blu-ray Disc was seen in July 18 2006. The prices are as large around US$699. The Table below shows the Physical dimensions and storage capacity of the BD in comparison with the regular DVD. Competition from HD DVD: A forum was set up in the year 1995 for the exchange of hardware and software updates of the regular DVD. From the initial stage of the development of blue laser DVD committee has different opinions. In August 2002, Toshiba and NEC made an announcement about their competing standard advanced optical devices. DVD forum finally adapted it and the next year it was renamed as HD DVD. There was though competition between the Blu-Ray and HD DVD. The support from the technology partners from both the sides increased the competition among Blu-Ray and HD DVD. Both Blu-ray and HD DVD have same physical dimensions their storage capabilities and other supporting differences are listed in the tables below. The Great Gatsby Nick - Detached or Dishonest? The Great Gatsby is a difficult book to interpret, particularly because of the style in which it is written. Not only must the reader differentiate between the separate views of Nick as the narrator and Nick as the character, but he or she must also take into consideration at what time period, relative to this story, are these views being expressed. After all, Nick the narrator is presently evaluating the manner in which his character behaved the year before, as well as allowing his character to voice his opinion, as his opinion had been during that time frame. We learn to trust Nick as a narrator, because all the pieces of information he gives to us, received through symbolism, imagery, or personal reflection, lead us to make significant decisions regarding the other characters of the novel. His character, on the other hand, cannot be looked upon in the same manner; it can be seen as dishonest and hypocritical, yet it is these negative characteristics that humanize him, allowing rea ders to relate to him as a person. What Nick thinks as the narrator is not always the same as what his character portrays. In just the third paragraph of this book, we learn that Nick is "inclined to reserve all judgments (Page 5)," but that his tolerance, "has a limit (Page 6)." True, his opinions might not be expressed in words, but it is important to realize that those opinions still exist. The narrator's role is to make us aware of Nick's "judgments," for his character neglects to respond to such feelings. Various techniques allow us to draw our own conclusions, the most interesting one being symbolism. The "foul dust" mentioned throughout the novel serves to corrupt everything it encounters. It is this foul dust that represents the lives of Daisy, Tom, and Jordan. After all, they are all immoral characters. A word such as dust successfully gives off a negative ambiance, but for Nick to go the step further and declare such dust to be "foul" truly represents his disapproval of their actions. Thus, without proclaimi ng his opinion in the form of words, Nick presents it openly through symbolism for us to see. However, even though we know that Nick as the narrator, reflecting back on that summer, did not see the three to be honorable people, he still spent a great deal of time with them.
